This year’s Birdfair in August was a virtual event. Most of the talks, discussions and presentations were recorded and will remain available on the Virtual Birdfair website until about the third week of November. The link https://virtual.birdfair.org.uk/index.php/marquees/events-and-lectures-marquee/ takes you to a screen of scrolling panels or, lower down the page, a menu of different subsets of the events, each of which will produce a list for the chosen category. Clicking on a title will take you to further information and to a link to activate the recording. In some cases you may need to click on the panel with the “Virtual Birdfair” tent drawing to access the content.
Events vary in length from 10 to 12 minutes up to over an hour and there is plenty to keep you entertained and informed.

Planning is now underway for the 2020 Club Annual General Meeting, which will take place on Wednesday 30 September 2020 at 7.00 p.m. This will be a "virtual" meeting, using Zoom technology, and the link will be made available closer to the date.
The agenda and full documentation for the meeting can be found here
The meeting will include annual elections. It is vital for the future of the Club and the development of its activities that we should strengthen the Board of Trustees. At present only six of the permitted twelve seats are filled and it has on occasion been impossible to take decisions because meetings have not been quorate. A printable/downloadable form for nominations to the Board can be found here

The annual National Whale and Dolphin Watch, organised by the Sea Watch Foundation, runs this year from Saturday 25 July to Sunday 2 August.
It seeks to involve the general public (including DBC members) in the collection of records of whales, dolphins and porpoises around the country.
Watch points are already organised for Whitburn Bird Observatory and for Hartlepool Bay for each of the nine days, but there is scope for other observers to undertake observations elsewhere along the Durham coast.
If you would like to be involved please contact nwdw@seawatchfoundation.org.uk as soon as possible.
